CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – UTC will offer a degree in Cybersecurity beginning next year.
University officials announced the new degree program on Thursday.
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology in Cybersecurity program will begin the spring of 2023.
UTC says the degree will address needs in the modern workplace.
They say about 6,700 cybersecurity jobs are open in Tennessee right now, including more than 300 in our area.
They point out that cybersecutiry professionals who have worked 5-8 years earn almost $100,000 a year.
The program will teach students to assess the security needs of computer and network systems, recommend safeguard solutions, plus  install and run security devices, systems and procedures.
“We are eager to collaborate with our community partners and community colleges throughout Tennessee and the Southeast region to address a major workforce need,” said Dr. Jerold L. Hale, UTC provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. “The program’s objective is to prepare students as leaders in IT and cybersecurity who can function effectively in multidisciplinary environments in the local and regional workforce.”
The program will target transfer students from community colleges and four-year universities, and people who are already doing this kind of work without a degree.
