Jim Hempstead heads the North American Project & Infrastructure Finance Group, managing 35 analysts who cover almost 800 issuers with $2 trillion in debt across the electric, gas and water utility sectors, municipal transportation including airports, seaports and toll roads, and all types of project financing structures. Jim acts as a rating chair across all segments of the franchise, is a member of the Infrastructure Finance Franchise Committee and a member of the Global Infrastructure Focus Editorial Board. Jim also manages the Cyber Risk Team, which seeks to raise the knowledge and awareness of the rating agency’s approximately 1,300 global financial analysts with respect to the rising cyber risks associated with credit. In this role, Jim works with internal and external strategic partners to identify, define, measure and utilize cyber-related data and metrics to help bridge the gap between cyber and credit risks. Jim joined Moody’s in December 2002 after working 12 years as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch, Salomon Smith Barney and Bear Stearns. As a banker, Jim provided financial and advisory services to electric, natural gas distribution, interstate pipeline, energy merchant, water and energy technology companies.
Leroy Terrelonge is a Vice President – Senior Analyst in the MIS Cyber Risk Group, where he is responsible for creating and executing a cyber-risk analytics and research agenda. He works collaboratively with stakeholders across Moody’s to build cyber datasets and publish timely and relevant research on cyber risk and its impact on financial performance. Leroy has more than 18 years of risk experience working in government, international education, tech startups and corporates. Prior to joining Moody’s, Leroy led a team of analysts at Flashpoint, a threat intelligence company that researches cybercriminal communities, and previously worked as an analyst at the National Security Agency. He has been cited in both domestic and international media on cyber risk issues and has presented at cybersecurity conferences around the world.
Derek Vadala serves as the Chief Risk Officer at BitSight and oversees its risk division. In this role, he leads teams focused on the company’s risk methodologies and products that enable security and business leaders to better communicate with each other and with boards of directors by translating cyber risk into financial terms. He also oversees the company’s information technology and security. He has over 25 years of experience in information security management. Before joining BitSight, Derek was the CEO and founder of VisibleRisk, a joint venture between Moody’s Corporation and Team8, which was acquired by BitSight in 2021. Prior to that, Derek was the global head of cyber risk for Moody’s Investors Service, responsible for developing capabilities for evaluating cyber risk and incorporating those capabilities into credit analysis. He also previously served as the chief information security officer for Moody’s Corporation, where he was responsible for global information risk and security across Moody’s businesses worldwide.
